WriterDuet is your next must-know software if you are a writer for mass media. If you’ve never heard of WriterDuet, you may wonder if it’s similar to co-authoring a project or involves working with another writer in some capacity.

You’re not far from the truth. However, there is so much more to know about WriterDuet, how it works, and what its creators built it for.

In this article, you learn what you need to know about this software and how to use it to most benefit your author goals. Here’s my overall rating, then we’ll dive into the full review.

Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

WriterDuet: What’s Covered

What Is WriterDuet?

WriterDuet is a software built for screenwriters, originally released in 2013, and used by more than one million screenwriters, TV shows, and even blockbusters. More than this, it is available worldwide.

In fact, it’s available in many languages, including:

  • English
  • Spanish
  • Chinese
  • French

Whether you use iOS or Android, Windows or just the Web, you can make use of this powerful software.

Can you use WriterDuet for free?

Yes, WriterDuet offers a free version that comes with many benefits. While it’s common for services to require you to input your card information in order to gain a free trial, WriterDuet does not require this step.

As a free user, you have access to write up to three projects (or scripts) for free—no page limits. On top of this, your work will be free of any WriterDuet watermarks. Your work is your work, with zero WaterDuet branding and no page limits.

This free version also includes a review of your editing history as well as backups to both Google Drive and Dropbox.

If you desire more features within the software, simply purchase one of the following paid versions.

Plus: $9.99/monthly

In addition to every free feature, as a Plus member you will receive access to:

  • Limitless projects
  • Ability to collaborate with other writers in real time
  • The option to write offline
  • An app specifically designed for your desktop computer

Unlimited projects? Sounds like a win to me.

Pro: $11.99/monthly

Once again, the Pro membership includes everything in the Plus membership.

However, Pro allows you a deeper level of control over your writing:

  • Options to customize your experience
  • Statistics about your project
  • Ability to manage revisions

Furthermore, with Pro you can apply filters to both characters and their dialogue.

Premium: $13.99/monthly

With the Premium subscription fee, you gain complete access to every single feature WriterDuet offers users.

On top of the features mentioned above, you can also access:

  • Distinct voices to narrate your writing
  • The ability to translate your script into dozens of other languages
  • Simultaneous scene format and tools

If you are currently a student or an educator, WriterDuet offers you 50% any subscription you sign up for.

FAQ’s

Below are answers to some frequently asked questions. Let’s dive in!

How Do You Collaborate In WriterDuet?

There are many ways to collaborate with writers in WriterDuet, one of which is to simply invite other writers through email.

Similar to Google Docs, WriterDuet also allows you to:

  • Share you link with other collaborators
  • Create specific permissions for users

You can even share your projects with writers who do not use the platform via a Publish link. You can brainstorm ways to build tension in writing or share ideas on how to analyze a character with other writers, all from the comfort of your own house.

If you plan to create a project, invite collaborators to join, and then pass the project off, you can do this as well. For example, all you have to do is remove yourself as a collaborator.

There are two ways to remove yourself:

  • Simply select File > Remove Project > Remove
  • Go to your portfolio > Right click the project > Click Delete > Click Remove

Note that your choice to remove yourself is immediately put into effect. You will no longer have access to the project.

Does WriterDuet Have An App?

WriterDuet has a desktop app for paid users and is compatible with the following operating systems:

  • Mac (Intel)
  • Mac (M1)
  • Windows
  • Linux 32-bit
  • Linux 64-bit

Simply download the app, make sure you’re up to date, and begin writing!

Does WriterDuet Work Offline?

If you choose the Plus subscription, you gain access to the desktop app which allows you to work both online and offline. For instance, if you want to write a book in one week but won’t have access to an Internet connection, this is a great option for you.

For trial users, the feature is not available. However, you may want to use the free trial first to see if the offline option could benefit you.

You may want to test the software out, then decide if you want to upgrade to the Plus option with all its features.

Should You Use This Software?

Now that you understand the many features of WriterDuet you must decide if you want to trial or invest in the service.

You may wonder about the following:

  • What if I’m not a screenwriter?
  • I’m writing a novel trilogy…can WriterDuet help me?
  • I want to try it but what if I don’t like it?

First of all, you do not need to be a screenwriter to use this writing software. While the specific features were made for screenwriters, they also benefit novelists. The software’s design makes for an easy learning curve.

Built for writers to collaborate, authors can share their work with writing colleagues or even beta readers. This software allows users to brainstorm genre conventions, create sage archetypes, and work with other writers, all from home.

WriterDuet also works with ReadThrough, which allows your work to be read back to you. Because it is also cloud-based, you can seamlessly transition from writing from one device to another.

Perhaps best of all, you no longer need to worry about losing your work. This software provides an infinite history of your work via a Time Machine created specifically for your writing.

Combined, these features work in conjunction to help you write with the most ease possible.

If you are working on book two of your trilogy and want to share book one with your editor, simply invite your editor to collaborate on it.

Maybe you want to hear your work read to you or write in a language other than English—WriterDuet has you covered there as well.

Whether you choose to trial the free version or plunge in with the Premium, your writing can benefit from this software.

Remember, even if you want to try it for free, you still get:

  • Three projects
  • Zero page limits
  • No watermarks

Plus, you don’t need to share your card information unless you opt into a paid subscription.

Take Your Next Step Today

This software can be a part of laying the foundation for your dreams of becoming a published author. Of course, you can always write a book in Google Docs, Word, or any other type of book writing software. But a tool like this will help and supplement you along the way.

The most important thing to remember is this: bridging the gap between educating yourself and executing what you learned is paramount to your success.

To help you bridge this gap, I’m including access to the publishing path assessment. As you finish your writing, you’ll want to start exploring publishing options. This will give you direction.
