Sharing your story, whether it’s your personal memoir or a fiction story you created, is a vulnerable undertaking.

That’s why in this blog, I provide a clear-cut, Hawes Jenkins review to help you on your journey to publication. I’ll first provide my overall rating in the box below, then we can get straight into a more thorough review.

Overall Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Hawes Jenkins Review: What’s Covered

What Is Hawes Jenkins?

Hawes & Jenkins is based in Scottsdale, Arizona. It describes itself as “a full-service publisher devoted to helping writers…realize their dream of becoming published authors… Let us help you realize your story’s full potential and share your message with a worldwide audience!”

Like most publishers, they state that you, the writer, have a story to tell. To help you share your story, Hawes & Jenkins says they use their expertise to guide you through every step of the publishing process.

Their tagline, The One-Stop Solution Publisher, makes a big claim. So let’s dive into this Hawes Jenkins review…are they legit?

Is Hawes And Jenkins Publishing Legitimate?

The answer to this question depends on what type of publishing company Hawes & Jenkins claims to be. For instance, traditional publishing companies pay writers for the privilege of publishing the writer’s book. However, the trade-off lies in the publisher making many of the creative choices.

Self-publishing companies help writers publish their books while allowing them to maintain creative control. Because writers who self-publish put in most of the work, they keep a large percentage of the royalties.

There are also companies, like Hawes & Jenkins, who offer specific services to aspiring authors. These publishers often accept or reject a writer’s project. If they accept it, the writer pays a fee, essentially hiring the publisher to walk them through the self-publishing process.

If you wonder how to publish a book for free, this Hawes Jenkins review will likely reveal this company is a no for you. However, if you want help learning how to get your book noticed on Amazon, a company like Hawes & Jenkins may be a viable option. But, let’s not make a rash decision. What exactly do they offer?

Hawes Jenkins Review: What They Offer

This Hawes Jenkins review is geared to help you make an educated decision about your next steps. Before you determine what exactly that step should be, let’s take a look at what they offer. Below are the three packages this publisher presents on their website.

Essential Package

Their most popular package, the Essential Package includes the following:

  • Page Design
  • Cover Art
  • Conversion to Various Digital Formats
  • Printed Editions of the Work
  • Author Discount Program
  • ISBN
  • Digital Distribution
  • Print Distribution
  • Author Web Page

If you want help with the above, or several of these points could benefit your author career, you may want to look into this particular package.

Essential Plus Package

The second package Hawes& Jenkins offers includes several additional benefits:

  • Full-Copy Edit
  • Page Design
  • Cover Art
  • Conversion to Various Digital Formats
  • Printed Editions of the Work
  • Author Discount Program
  • ISBN
  • Digital Distribution
  • Print Distribution
  • Author Web Page
  • Publicity and Press Release Distribution

If you are a debut author and unsure about marketing your book, look into their last point on publicity and distribution.

Essential Plus + Enhanced Marketing Program

This Hawes Jenkins review would not be complete without including their premium package.

Coming in with the most features, it includes the below list:

  • Full-Copy Edit
  • Page Design
  • Cover Art
  • Conversion to Various Digital Formats
  • Printed Editions of the Work
  • Author Discount Program
  • ISBN
  • Digital Distribution
  • Print Distribution
  • Author Web Page
  • Publicity and Press Release Distribution
  • Creation of an Author YouTube Channel
  • Promotional Video Trailer
  • Video Interview via Zoom
  • Podcast Interview on the ReaderHouse Author Roundtable
  • Banner Advertisement on the Homepage of the ReaderHouse Online Bookstore Website
  • Pinterest Business Account
  • Facebook Social Media Launch Package

For more info on each of these points for the above packages, visit their publishing services page.

While several of the aspects included in the above packages could help an aspiring author, some of them feel a bit weak.

Paying for a Facebook social media launch package sounds promising, but what Hawes & Jenkins specifically offers in this package seems to lack substance.

For instance, it’s quite simple to create a Facebook profile and link to your book. While they say they offer promotional graphics, those can be created and downloaded via templates on Canva at zero cost.

One final note, Hawes & Jenkins makes a clear statement on their publishing services page: Complete publishing packages available for only 5 low payments of $395!

This comes out to $1,975. Because much of what Hawes & Jenkins offers are aspects you could do yourself, or ask a friend to do, you may want to consider looking into other options.

If they offered quality writing classes or personalized coaching, this would add value to the cost. However, from what I can tell, they do not.

Alternative Options

Just as there are many book writing strategies, there are numerous publishing options. If you lack the time or ability to launch your book on your own, this Hawes Jenkins review may have come at just the right time. For some, they may be a helpful option.

That said, it’s always wise to look into alternative options, learn what’s out there, and make an educated decision.

1. Request professional feedback on your book

One way to save yourself unnecessary expenses down the road is to invest in early feedback. Whether you pursue beta readers’ thoughts on your book, or pursue a manuscript critique with an editor, this feedback can equip you to make necessary changes, rather than having to pay someone later to make them for you.

2. Consider the pros and cons of self-publishing vs traditional publishing

There are many reasons why self-publishing your book may be the right choice for you. There are also reasons to consider traditional publishing. Take a good look at self-publishing vs traditional publishing before you make a final decision.

3. Hire a well-known company

You may want to consider working with a self-publishing company that has already made its mark on the world. For instance, SelfPublishing.com’s CEO and Founder, Chandler Bolt, made the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for his self-publishing company.

Hawes Jenkins Review: Closing Thoughts And Next Step
