In the past, if you wanted someone to read a book, you’d have to either relinquish your own copy or wait for them to purchase it themselves. Now, there are more options, which has many wanting to learn how to gift an Audible book.
It’s not much different than ordering your friend a physical copy of a book, but can be helpful if that person doesn’t like clutter (which is what some crazy people call having a lot of books…) or they just prefer to listen to audiobooks. Perhaps you even have a loved one whose job allots them time to listen, but they can’t physically read the book.
No matter your reason for wanting to learn how to gift someone an Audible book, there are a couple ways to go about it.
A note here, is that this is how to gift an Audible book specifically, which means it is done through Amazon. Other audiobook gifting options may differ for other platforms.
1. Log into Audible, or Sign Up
Specifically navigate to the Audible website, not Amazon. If you log in through Amazon, and you have the audiobook yourself, you may find that the option to “buy for others” won’t be visible.
Instead, go to www.audible.com and sign in to your account with the same details you use to sign into Amazon.
2. Search for the Book
Go to the search bar and type in the details of the book you want to gift. You can also alternatively go to “Library” and find the book at the top of the list if you’ve recently listened to it.

3. Click the “More Options”
From the sales page, navigate to the “more options” button in gray, listed beneath the “Play” button.
4. Choose “Give as Gift” option
A box will pop up after hitting the “more options” button, and this will allow you to either write a review (which you should always do, reviews are important and if you’re gifting the book, it was good enough to recommend and therefore, good enough to review) or “give as gift”.

5. Choose email or print
There are two options for how to gift an Audible book. One is an email version, the other is a method where you print out the code to hand-deliver. The printed copy would be beneficial to use in a birthday or holiday card, while the other is just convenient for both people to utilize.
6. Fill in the details
fill out each prompt for the gift, including the email, name, who it’s from, as well as the date you would like to send it. This is a really cool option because you can pre-plan a gift to arrive on your intended day.
7. Confirm the purchase
Final step for learning how to gift an Audible book! You’ll have the option to either buy the title and complete the purchase, or use one of your Audible credits to buy the book. Either way, you will need to confirm the details to finalize the purchase and send the book.

Does the recipient need an Amazon or Audible account?
They will need to be able to listen to the book through Amazon, yes. When gifting the book, they will have a code to enter if you chose the print option, or can redeem through a link if you chose the email option.
Is an Amazon account the same as an Audible account?
Yes. If you have an account through Amazon, it is the same login details for Audible as they’re a linked entity.
Do I need an Audible account in order to gift an Audible book?
If you have an Amazon account, you have an Audible account. You do need an Amazon or Audible account in order to make a purchase of a book, even if it’s a gift for someone else.
Do I need to have an Audible Membership or subscription to gift an Audible book?
No. You do not need to have an active Audible Membership (in which you pay a monthly fee in exchange for a book “credit”) in order to buy a book and gift it to a friend. You can go through Amazon in order to “give as gift” from the book’s sales page.
Does a book gifted through Audible have to be listened to on the Audible app?
You are not able to listen to books purchased through Audible on other audiobook apps like iBooks or Kobo.
Can I gift an Audible book from my phone?
Yes. The steps are the same as above, but you will go through the Audible app in order to do so.
