The Scholarship

Are you a student that loves to write? Do you see yourself being a writer in the future? Do you have a story to tell? If you’d like to use your creative writing skills to help fund your education, this scholarship is for you!

Our Scholarship Goals

We believe that writing a book has an incredible power to bring change and impact to the world. Self-Publishing School invests in changing lives; we’re investing in the future of our industry by helping the best writing talent afford their education.

This image is of Emma Sumner, a young writer, and me in an interview for Good Morning Sacramento. My book helped and inspired Emma’s dad to self-publish his book, and then Emma got inspired to write her own! Emma recently had her first paid speaking gig where she is going to be inspiring more young people, as well!

Self-Publishing School extends our influence on young people further by providing a scholarship to those who are currently studying at an undergraduate and graduate-level every year.

2019 Scholarship Winner Announcement

“My name is Colleen Ward, and I am a senior studying communication disorders at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, minoring in linguistics and education and pursuing a letter of specialization in developmental disabilities and human services. I’m currently applying to graduate programs for speech-language pathology, and am interested in adult neurogenic research as well as working in the public school systems! I applied for the Self-Publishing School Scholarship specifically because it allowed me to express myself creatively through writing. Learning about individuals with communication disorders allows me to see what can happen when the translation process of ideas from one’s mind to the outside world is disrupted. Because of this, I want to advocate for the various ways we can communicate, in hopes that someday I can be working to ensure everyone has a “voice”.”
